The school is run by the management team which consists of the 3 Phase Heads and the Business Manager, assisted by an active, passionate Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees consists of 14 Trustees including 2 Phase Heads and 2 ex-Officio members. The Chairman of the Board, Vice-Chairman and Treasurer meet regularly with the Management Committee and termly Board meetings are held.

An Independent, Christian-based, Co-Educational, Day School is seeking to fill the following position:

Starting date: May 2019, or as soon as convenient

WORKING HOURS: 08:00 to 13:00

The successful candidate should be an individual with emotional intelligence, integrity and empathy; capable of nurturing and counselling children to enable then to manage within an inspired educational environment.


  • B Psych qualification or Master’s degree in psychology or Master’s degree in Social Work
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a school environment with children ranging from Gr. 1 – Gr. 12
  • Registered with the HPCSA/SACSSP (Essential-registration documents to be provided)
  • Excellent communication and relational skills and sound ethical principles of practice
  • Experience conducting individual and group based counselling with pupils and staff, aimed at enhancing personal functioning
  • Experience in designing and implementing psycho-social training programs, topic specific workshops, psycho-educational presentations and staff development workshops
  • Background in basic psychological assessments and general psychological screening with a focus on referrals
  • Previous involvement in study skills workshops and subject choice/career choice assessments, would be an advantage
  • Police Clearance certificate, including clearance in terms of the Sexual Offences Act.
  • Highly proficient IT skills
  • An ability to identify with the values and ethos of Thomas More College
