Making the right decision when facing a problem is sometimes a difficult task, critical thinking gives us the ability to assess the pros and cons of the issue and make a better decision. Analysing how you think allows you to present your own ideas logically.
Pupils in Grade 10 are introduced to useful tools to help guide their thinking. Edward de Bono’s thinking hats are a great way to guide group thinking and direct problem solving while Bloom’s Taxonomy can be used to organise the research process and also guide thinking.
Grade 11 pupils are introduced to “Habits of Mind” which comprises of 16 problem solving skills that are necessary to enhance reasoning, creativity and insightfulness. These skills were developed by Art Costa and his co-author Bena Kallick following studies into successful people. These Habits equip individuals with skills to cope with real life situations and achieve positive outcomes.
